After its long separation from the world, Runaryl's economy has flourished. Visitors who dare to make the journey to the floating islands are greeted with a wealth of strange plants, fruits, materials, and critters, and the residents of Runaryl are more than eager to trade their wares for things from the earthbound surface cities; glass, metals, specialty seeds, and, most especially, things from the ocean; shellfish, pearls, seaweed, sunken treasures, all things that are in short supply when your home floats thousands of feet in the air above Kyvalore. True, it's possible to fly down to the ocean waves to dive yourself, but there are no ships in Runaryl, no docks. If you tire before you reach home, you might fall into the sea, never to be seen again. So those merchants who haul their wares to Runaryl are well compensated.
